Colombian Emeralds
Emeralds are a variety of the mineral beryl (Be3Al2(SiO3)6,) colored green by trace amounts of chromium and sometimes vanadium Beryl has a hardness of 7.5 - 8 on the 10 point Mohs scale of mineral hardness. Most emeralds are highly included, so their toughness (resistance to breakage) is classified as generally poor.
The word "emerald" comes from Latin smaragdus, via Greek smaragdos, its original source being a Semitic word izmargad or the Sanskrit word, marakata, meaning "emerald" or "green". (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emerald).
I heard about this gemstone long time ago before I worked in a cruise ship and visited many places in the world. The best and original emeralds are come from Colombia. My friend told me that we’re gonna visit Cartagena Colombia during the crossing cruise from Los Angeles to Miami through Panama Canal. I couldn’t missed this moment, I had to got this Emerald. Yeah, finaly I got it. The green Emerald, 1 carat, I got it for 120$, that was expencive, but that was the only time I could visited Colombia, so I thought that was worth.
